Braswell, Judah and William Hunt IV

From Ann H. Kahn of Sebring, FL, published in Braswell Branches, Vol. 9, No. 3, Summer 2000:

I connect with Judah BRASWELL m. William HUNT (IV), son Alexander and daughter Nancy. William IV was s/o Henry and Agnes HUNT. My Alexander was born about 1760 in Edgecombe Co., North Carolina. I have proven his service in DAR.

William was married to Ann Cloe at his death. In 1790 Judah HUNT was in Granville Co., North Carolina; William IV and children were counted in Robeson Co., North Carolina."

From Nona: My Lucreasy BRASWELL was probably born ca. 1750 (she married William WILLIAMS ca. 1778) and Lucreasy had a sister named Judah who was probably born by 1760 and was married to a Mr. HUNT before 1779. Judah had children Alexander and Nancy.

I am not convinced that Judah Braswell was married to William Hunt. There was a William Hunt in Robeson County in 1790 with sons Richard and Alexander, who are listed as living next door to each other. Another Alexander Hunt is also listed in Robeson County in the 1790 census, living next to David Braswell and a few houses away from Ferebe Hunt (female) and Arthur Braswell. I think it is likely this Alexander Hunt who is the son of Judah Braswell Hunt, who appears as a female head of household in Nash County in 1790 with a young male and two other females in the home. I suspect Judah is a widow at this time. William Hunt was no doubt connected to the Braswell family in Nash County since he was involved in various land transactions with them. I believe Sarah Hunt, who married Sampson Braswell, may be his sister. Judah Braswell may have married a relative of William Hunt. Property owners listed in Nash County in the 1760s through 1780s included Thomas Hunt, David Hunt, Jesse Hunt, and John Hunt, so there are several possibilities. The two Alexander Hunts in Robeson County were likely cousins.
